Dana Stoehr named Community Award honoree by San Mateo labor council

21 June 2018 — San Mateo, CA: The San Mateo County Central Labor Council has named Dana Stoehr their 2018 Community Award recipient.

Dana Stoehr, chief executive officer of the San Mateo County Event Center and Fair, will be honored on July 20 at the labor council’s 38th annual committee on political education (COPE) banquet. The event will be held at the Westin San Francisco Airport in Millbrae.

“We at the Labor Council were thrilled when Dana was chosen to lead the event center,” said Julie Lind-Rupp, executive officer and executive secretary treasurer of the San Mateo County Central Labor Council.
“With Dana at the helm, labor relations have improved exponentially. Her commitment to a safe working environment where workers are treated well, compensated fairly and protected on the job are all part of why we chose her as our Community Award recipient. Her professionalism, her collaborative style of leadership, her innovative spirit and her dedication to the community will ensure the event center remains a jewel of the county for years to come.”

“I am very humbled by this honor,” said Stoehr. “One of the primary objectives of the labor council is to secure full recognition and enjoyment of the rights and liberties to which workers are entitled. I understand and support that principle in our workplace and value our ongoing collaboration.”

Stoehr has more than 27 years of extensive venue, fair and event leadership experience, including working for the Solano and the Alameda county fairs. She has produced events ranging from fairs to large-scale concerts, conferences and festivals and has a reputation for creative thinking and professionalism. It is this extensive experience that gives Stoehr the knowledge and unique understanding of the needs of the venue’s workers and supporting a collaborative work environment for all staff.

Stoehr has served as CEO of the event center since 2017. She first joined the San Mateo Event Center in 2006 as assistant general manager. Stoehr is an industry leader and serves on the board of directors for the International Association of Venue Managers (Amphitheater and Fairgrounds Sector) and the California Association of Racing Fairs. In addition, she is committed to her community and serves on the board of directors for the San Mateo Police Activities League (PAL).
