San Mateo County Event Center Supports Fortitude Careers’ Winter & Summer Build Programs for Young Adults Interested in Trades in 2024

San Mateo, CA – The San Mateo County Event Center is proud to sponsor Fortitude Careers’ Winter and Summer Build Programs this year. The 8-week program offers a comprehensive curriculum focusing on Life Skills, Career Services, and Construction Job Readiness for young adults aged 18 to 24 interested in pursuing a career in the construction trades.

Fortitude Careers, a non-profit organization, provides free training for young adults seeking a career in the trades. The program aims to offer a life-changing opportunity as an alternative to traditional college education. By providing practical, technical, and life mastery skills, Fortitude supports the needs of both the community and the workforce.

The Winter Build Program commenced on March 15th at the San Mateo County Event Center. Participants interested in joining a union have the opportunity to be fast-tracked into an apprenticeship as a carpenter, electrician, plumber, laborer, and more. Others may choose to pursue formal education in Construction Engineering, Architecture, Design, or Project Management. The program emphasizes the wide range of career opportunities available in the trades, including roles as product representatives, administrative positions, inspectors, and more.

“We are delighted to host Fortitude Careers,” says Dana Stoehr, CEO of the San Mateo County Event Center. “As a non-profit organization, we are committed to supporting other non-profits serving our community. We are thrilled to provide training opportunities for these deserving young people at our Event Center.”

Participants have expressed their appreciation for the program, with one stating, “I have learned more about math in two months at Fortitude than in four years of high school,” and another noting, “My mom is so happy I’m in Fortitude – she says she can already see a difference in my maturity.”

Program participants are dedicating their winter to becoming job-ready, with eight weeks of full-time study aimed at preparing them to enter the workforce. For further information or to connect with any of the new graduates, please contact Fortitude Careers at [email protected].

The next session of Fortitude Careers is scheduled to begin on June 20th and will run until August 16th, 2024 at the San Mateo County Event Center!
